2008: Year of the Barn Photography Competition
In conjunction with the Northern Tier Cultural Alliance and “2008: the Year of the Barn”, the Potter
County Fine Arts Council is sponsoring a Photo Competition. “2008: the Year of the Barn” is a yearlong
project designed to celebrate our regional agricultural heritage by calling attention to the
architecture, history and cultural life made visible in barns all around us. For more information on

Eligibility:
The competition is open to all photographers. The photographer does not need to live in the
Northern Tier region. However, photographs should be barns in the Northern Tier region which
includes Susquehanna, Wyoming, Bradford, Sullivan, Tioga, Lycoming, Clinton, Cameron, Potter
and McKean Counties. Location of the barn should be included on the back of the photo. Barn
owners’ permission is not required as long as the photographer has not trespassed to take
photograph. All entries must be the work of the person submitting it. All photos must have the
photographers name, address and location of the barn on the back.
Guidelines:
Submissions may be in print or digital format, slides will not be accepted.
- Print submissions: Submit up to 3 prints, the prints should be no smaller than 5” X 7”
and no larger than 10” X 14”. Please no frames but they must be matted and ready
for display.
- Digital submissions: You can submit in digital format, but you must also submit prints.
Digital images must be a minimum of 300dpi.
A completed entry form, the entry fee and a stamped, self addressed envelope must accompany
prints and disk (if including). Prints and disks will not be returned without a SASE.
Awards & Prizes:
The entry fee is $10.00 per print. Prize amounts will be based on the number of entries. All entry
money will be returned in the prize amount and distributed 50% for 1st place, 30% for 2nd place &
20% for 3rd place. Winning entries will be held for display by the Northern Tier Cultural Alliance at
the PA Heritage Festival on September 19 – 21, 2008. Entrants may price prints at that time and/or
display contact information.
Judging:
Entries must be postmarked no later than August 29th, 2008 to be eligible for judging. Judging will
be Saturday, September 13th, 2008 prior to the start of the Songwriters Roundtable. Entries will be
displayed at the Songwriters Roundtable at Denton Hill Ski Resort on Saturday September 13th,
2008. Entries will be judged by Curt Weinhold, Dan Kerr, Jennifer Stambaugh, and Laurie Barr and
the winners will be announced during the Songwriters Roundtable. Winners do not have to be
present to win.
