Tomato Plant Girl to be presented at Ag Heritage Day in Towanda

On Friday July 2 at 1 PM, Northern Tier Buy Fresh Buy Local, in conjunction with Madame Smudge?s Royal Court Theatre, will present a special FREE performance of Tomato Plant Girl, a play for children ages 5 and up. The performance will take place in the upstairs meeting room of the Weigh Station Cafe at 1 Washington St. on the Merrill Parkway in Towanda.

Tomato Plant Girl is an exploration of friendship ? told with humor, action and playful high-energy conflict. The adventure unfolds in a magical garden and centers around Little Girl, her Bossy Best Friend, and an ailing tomato plant that comes to life. While capturing the imagination of young and old, the approximately one hour play also emphasizes making your own rules, standing up to bullies and connecting with nature.

Madame Smudge is a project of three Bradford County young people, under the auspices of the Bradford County Regional Arts Council. Utilizing their homegrown talents combined with training obtained in varied theatre programs from Italy to Pittsburgh and California to Philadelphia, Kasidy Benjamin, Melody Harnish and Lukas Poost are presenting workshops, giving performances and providing theatre experiences for adults, families and children throughout the region this summer. To sign up for a workshop or book a performance, contact Madame Smudge at 570-268-ARTS. Information about upcoming Smudge programs will be available at the Ag Heritage Day performance.

Ag Heritage Day is an annual celebration of our farm roots, sponsored by the Northern Tier Cultural Alliance. From 10:30 AM to 3 PM, there will be spinners, weavers, basket making and other traditional craft demonstrations and exhibits in and around the Washington St. train station. Come see Tomato Plant Girl at 1 PM and stay for free ice cream treats from 2 to 3 PM, courtesy of the Dairy Promotion Board. All events are free and open to the public.
