The Troy Rotary Club is sponsoring a showing of the "The Barns and Agriculture of Pennsylvania’s
Northern Tier: A 2008 Portrait" at the Rialto Theatre on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 7:00pm.
This hour-long documentary takes a look at the history of the barn structure, how to identify its
origins, and the role it plays in past and present agriculture. The DVD features interviews with barn
experts and local farmers as well as footage from NTCA's two Year of the Barn Dances held in
Coudersport and Troy. It is the culmination of the Northern Tier Cultural Alliance's "2008: Year of
the Barn" Project - an 18-month project to document, celebrate and preserve the importance and
influence of agriculture on the heritage and culture of PA's rural North Country and to highlight the
continued role of farming in the PA North Country culture and economy.
Cost for the event is $15 and includes light hors 'de hourves of fresh, local foods and a free bag of
popcorn. Ticket sales proceeds benefit the Rialto Theatre Imporvement Fund. The Northern Tier
Cultural Alliance will have copies of the Barn DVD and other items inspired by the Year of the Barn
project for sale in the lobby.
